San Marino is a small, landlocked country in Southern Europe, surrounded entirely by Italy. It is one of the world’s smallest countries, both in terms of population and area, covering just 61 square kilometers (about 24 square miles). San Marino is situated on the northeastern side of the Apennine Mountains, and its capital is also named San Marino.

San Marino claims to be the world’s oldest republic, founded in A.D. 301 by Saint Marinus. It has remained independent for most of its history, despite the surrounding Italian states’ various political changes.

Tourists visit San Marino for its historic sites, including the Guaita and Cesta towers, as well as its scenic views and medieval architecture. It also attracts visitors due to its status as a tax haven, and its compact size makes it easy to explore in a short time.

San Marino is a unique country with a long-standing tradition of independence and a rich history that contrasts with its small geographical size.
